The quetzal is the currency of Guatemala. It is named after the national bird of Guatemala, the Resplendent Quetzal.

In the center - 'Peace' above stylized dove, on the right - face value. Inscriptions along the rim in Spanish: 'Firm and Lasting Peace' at the top and '29 December 1996', at the bottom.

The 29 th of Dec. 1996 marked a watershed moment in Guatemalan history.
