Inscriptions along the rim: title of bank in Spanish state coat of arms in the center, below - the year of minting.

The sol, later known as the sol de oro, was the currency of Peru between 1863 and 1985.

The inscription along the rim: lower arch: 'Ten gold soles' in Spanish. In the center: effigy of Tupac Amaru between numeral denomination and mintmark (Lima).

Túpac Amaru (died Sept. 24, 1572) was the last indigenous leader of the Inca people in Peru.
